Among fields of cereals and fallow land there is a diversity of unmatched
flora and fauna. Extensive beaches of fine sand and area tours that include
visiting the many bird and ecological reserves of the area.
This is the Alentejo, trimmed by cliffs overlapping into the horizon,
bathed in seas that are not always always calm, but eternally beautiful
and mysterious, a strong blue, white lace of foam, watched from above
by flocks of seagulls.
Amongst woods, salt pans, rice paddies and beaches, tours of the river
Sado always fulfill your expectations and the elegance of flamingos and
dolphins of the estuary will make your trip unforgettable.
Although the heat in the summer can sometimes get very hot especially
in land, there is always water around, whether it be sea, river or dam,
the dams are essential to the conservation of the countryside and offer
relaxation, swimming, picnics and water sports.
The Alentejo is also a place full of history, with many monuments that
are worth a visit, like the Roman Temple of Évora also known as
the Temple of Diana, which is one of the richest of the Alentejo and is
located at the highest point of the city of Évora and receives
thousands of visitors annually. The megalithic stones, megalithic monuments,
still retain an important sacred meaningand can be found on the outskirts
of Evora, Pavia and Zambujeira do Mar.
Zambujeira, who´s coast is integrated in the Natural Park of Southwest
Alentejo and Costa Vicentina, is surrounded by small cliffs and beaches
that, outside the tourist high season are only used by a few locals and
offer a wonderful setting for relaxation and getting away from hustle
and bustle. Besides the central beach at Zambujeira, the beaches of Alteirinhos,
Nossa Senhora, Arquinha and Tonel, Vila Nova de Mil Fontes Santo Andre
should all be visited if you have the time.
Although the main activity is tourism there are also a lot of agriculture,
livestock and fisheries which are based around one of the four biggest
ports of the county (called Entrada da Barca). In recent years rural tourism
has grown a lot, with a handful of quality enterprises around the village.
In August takes place the Festival of the Southwest, the largest of the
summer music festivals in the country, located a few kilometres from the
village.
As the other regions of Portugal, this is also a region with excellent
gastronomy and wines, that are considered some of the best in the country. All Portugal Property.com:
